Innate Traditions   |   Rachelle Seliga   |   Jose Juan Garcia Alfaro   |   Donna Maria Camps   |    Media

‘Innate’ is that which is natural and inherent. ‘Traditions’ are those teachings that are passed down from one generation to the next. Nature's design offers us a map to health and wellness. We thrive when we follow that which has been laid out for us. Traditional medicinal knowledge is stored within our blood and bone memory, within the Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Stars. The more we heal ourselves from the destructive programming we have received, the more access we have to this knowledge.

About Innate Traditions:

Innate Traditions exists to midwife a cultural shift- where innate wisdom, personal authority and the sanctity of LIfe are centered and honored. We work with people across disciplines and geographies to: unlearn destructive belief systems that disconnect humanity from each other and from Life; re-member humanity’s original blueprint; and positively impact the respective communities to which we belong.

Our primary commitment is to maternal health and the revival of true postpartum care.

Women are the heart, the foundation of the people. Supporting Mothers supports healthy and empowered families, which supports thriving communities, which supports all of humanity.

Postpartum care is one of the most effective ways to care for future generations, because children’s health is contingent upon Maternal health. Our signature training- INNATE Postpartum Care - Certification Training has been attended by birth and healthcare providers from 35 states and over 20 countries.

We welcome you to join our community conversation dedicated to thriving life principles.

About Rachelle Seliga

Rachelle Seliga is a Mother and Midwife who is midwifing a cultural shift through her teachings, trainings and in-person experiences. She is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)— through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) who completed 8 years of traditional midwifery apprenticeship, spanning both the US and Mexico.

Rachelle embraces the original meaning of the word ‘midwife,’ which is caretaker of the people's health from ‘womb to tomb.' Learn more about Rachelle’s vision HERE.

Hands-on, life experience informs all of Rachelle’s work, and forms a strong basis of INNATE Postpartum Care - Certification Training, where students learn simple, empowering modalities that bring about true healing and vibrant health for postpartum Mothers and families. Learn more about INNATE Postpartum Care HERE.

In addition to her midwifery training, Rachelle trained in Holistic Pelvic Care with Tami Lynn Kent, uterine massage with the Arvigo Institute, and traditional breast care with several mentors - the practices which informed her in-person "Holistic Well-Woman Care Practice" for several years.

At the age of 23, Rachelle was adopted by traditional medicine people: Kanucas Durant Littlefish and Donna Maria Camps, who mentored her in holistic healing arts, and encouraged her to pick up the responsibility and privilege for her own Life.

In gratitude and reverence for this mentorship she received as a young adult, Rachelle created Fourth Cycle: Mentorship for Initiated Womanhood, where young women, ages 21-28 are supported in their reclamation of mature adulthood. Learn more about Fourth Cycle HERE.

Together with her elder Donna Maria and Juan Garcia, Rachelle founded Starseed Root to be the land based, experiential expression for their collective work. It’s core mission is to exist as a revilllaging project and school of traditioinal healing. Starseed Root works from the understanding that tending to the physiological design of human life (versus forcing our physiological design into societal frameworks) is one of the best ways to assure thriving life for humanity.

Starseed Root is centered around four major pillars of content, emphasizing the life-skills essential to forging new, healed ways forward: Re-villaging, The Primal Continuum of Human Life, Healing Ceremonies, and Healing Workshops. Starseed Root was birthed from the understanding that: the most effective and powerful usage of our collective energy comes from creating structures and systems that support Life and our connection to it. Jose Juan Garcia Alfaro

Jose Juan Garcia Alfaro was born and raised in Mexico. His Mother was his first spiritual teacher and elder—who taught Juan the gifts of love and compassion. Juan’s paternal grandmother was a midwife and healer, from the state of Gunajuato. From a young age, Juan’s Father was a channel for healing spirits. Traditional ceremonies have been the base of Juan’s life since birth.

Juan is a firekeeper of the Sun Dance Fire and as well as for the Temazcal (sweatlodge) ceremony. Juan runs ceremonies in the tradition of his ancestors, the Wirrarika people of Mexico. Juan understands the spiritual aspect of the Temazcal, as a work of faith for the people, and the physical aspect of the Temazcal is that health and well-being are created through activating the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water).

Together with Rachelle, they run ceremonies for families during times of great transition.

Juan grew up in the countryside outside of Mexico City, helping to build his family home, raise animals, haul water, hunt and harvest wild animals and plants, and tending to his family’s hearth place with his Mother.

As a young adult Juan lived in Patzcuaro, Michoacan, where he helped to create and implement Sustainable Water Management Strategies for the rural poor, including water catchment and greywater systems.

Juan is a Gold and Silversmith by trade and has been creating his own original work for the last 30 years. Juan works within the Mexican jewelry tradition, constantly adding new elements—techniques, design, style—that create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Juan is intimately connected to filigree and granulation as well as contemporary design. All of Juan’s work is made entirely by hand—as he uses no ‘moulds’ or ‘castings’ in his jewelry creations.

Juan’s interest to create jewelry was a genuine necessity of his in the first period of his life—he did not play with other children, rather he played in the trees and in the woods, creating jewelry utilizing materials that were accessible to him. Through his jewelry Juan expresses his deep love for Nature. His work expresses an agreement he has with Nature—to respect and maintain the richness of her beauty, in his jewelry. Juan’s work is sold internationally through his online store: www.GarciaMetalSmith.etsy.com
