"Postpartum" is a time period after birth.
It is not a syndrome.
We can say that the postpartum period lasts for:
6 weeks, 9months, 3 years, 7 years, all of life.
And all of these answers are TRUE.
Women are postpartum after the birth of a live baby, and after the birth of a stillborn baby.
Women are postpartum after a miscarriage and after an abortion.
Postpartum CARE safeguards women’s health and wellness – mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually – for LIFE.

Many families have "baby showers" and secure "baby things"...or have "blessingways" to celebrate the Mother...
Some families plan for their birth...

Very few families prepare for the postpartum time.

Many modern, postpartum Mothers find themselves ALONE in the postpartum period.

Fathers are navigating these times blind and ALONE as well.

Loneliness lends itself to a variety of health problems (including high blood pressure, diminished immunity, cognitive decline and DEPRESSION) - especially in times of vulnerability - which the postpartum period is.

Dads inhabit a powerful and critical role of supporting their partner and their children, but without the right education and support, they are missing the mark.

While modern humans exist in environments that are radically different from those in which we evolved, our human genome is essentially the same as it was over 1,000 years ago.

The physiologic requirements for postpartum WELLNESS are the same NOW as it was THEN.

For millennia, there have been postpartum traditions from around the world that deeply and holistically tend to postpartum Mothers. Within these traditions are cross-cultural commonalities to the postpartum care offered. These commonalities of postpartum traditions from throughout the world are based upon our PHYSIOLOGIC NEEDS as women and are concerned with women’s LIFE-LONG health and vitality.

These commonalities amongst the world‘s postpartum traditions, are what we are call in INNATE Postpartum Care: THE FIVE ESSENTIALS TO POSTPARTUM HEALING

The first 4 postpartum ESSENTIALS are: An extended resting period. Warm in temperature, warm in nature, easy to digest, nutrient dense foods. Bodywork. Warming therapies.

These first 4 Essentials to Postpartum Healing we can envision as PILLARS. As we know, for PILLARS to stand - they need to stand a strong FOUNDATION.

That foundation is COMMUNITY - the 5th Postpartum ESSENTIAL.

NO part of optimal postpartum care can happen without community support. As with all pillars - a strong foundation is needed for the pillars to stand upon, otherwise they fall.

When these Pillars become the goal and intention, Fathers have a clear job to do, and they can then step up and do what's needed to ensure that these pillars are handled.

  • This is not your first pregnancy, and you know you do not want to repeat your under-supported first (or second or third) postpartum experience/s.

Throughout the modern world - postpartum care is not being addressed nor offered. When it is — the focus is on perinatal mood disorders and postpartum pathology. We are dedicated to filling this VOID within family health care, by focusing on postpartum WELLNESS.

In many traditional systems of medicine—it is said that the postpartum period is a time/an opportunity for a woman’s health to IMPROVE with adequate postpartum care. Conversely, with improper care throughout the postpartum time, women’s health can greatly deteriorate. Unfortunately most modern people are accustomed to the latter: women’s health deteriorates after having a baby. What is common in the postpartum time, but not "normal" - becomes "normalized" - including:
  • Pelvic issues
  • Digestive issues
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Perinatal mood disorders

In our society, fathers are generally completely uneducated and unaware of these issues, and therefore are not able to step up as the protector and provider of his family's health.

If we want to assure the health of the future generations, we need to begin by focusing on the health of the Mothers and the Fathers.

As Mothers, we must center our own well-being, and allow ourselves to be cared for - in order to be able to caretake life in the way we are designed to.

As Fathers, we must center our own well being AND provide the presence that Mothers require to thrive. For Fathers, the post-partum time is a critical challenge and opportunity to fully step into fatherhood with intention.
